| Day 5: Coal mine workers continue hunger strike, one protestor evacuated | | | Early Times Report
Rajouri, July 8: The condition of one laborer has deteriorated who was evacuated out of the coal mine where 10 workers are sitting on fast unto death on the fifth consecutive day at Moghla in Kalakot tehsil in Rajouri district. He reportedly was hospitalized at District Hospital Rajouri. Pertinent to mention here that atleast 10 casual laborers have been sitting on fast unto death inside a coal mine at Moghla while 30 others were sitting along with them and 450 casual laborers from Moghla, Kalakot and other coal mines in Kalakot tehsil have been on indefinite strike in favor of their long pending demands including hike in daily wages and regularization of their services. Reports said condition of one protesting labourer Krishan Singh got deteriorated today and was evacuated to Public Health Center (PHC) Moghla from where he later was referred to District Hospital (DH) Rajouri. Meanwhile reports said a meeting between the representatives of casual laborers and officials of JK Minerals was in progress at Kalakot Dak Bunglow to end the indefinite strike by the casual laborers. Sources added that Abid Suhail, MD, JK Minerals Ltd through his representatives including Kalakot coal mine project manager, Kirtan Singh and Jai Mohan Singh, Manager Kalakot coal mines has assured the employees that their daily wage will be enhance to Rs200 from Rs150 and as for as regularization of their services is concerned their names have been forwarded to concerned ministry for necessary action. Meanwhile reports also said that Managing Director (MD) has demanded 15 days time for necessary action. |
