| Kamaal turns cleric, fumes over SC decision | | | Early Times report
SRINAGAR, July 8: National Conference (NC) leader, Dr Mustafa Kamaal today turned a cleric and described Supreme Court decision on Sharia Court as `interference in religion'. The apex court in a recent case has held that the Sharia Court had no relevance or authority. "This has serious consequences," Kamaal warned.Kamaal said the decision of the apex court is totally unfounded. "Interference in religious matters cannot be tolerated," he said. Taking a dig at the BJP, Kamaal said if such decisions have started coming at the beginning of the BJP rule then the life of minorities' in India will become very difficult. "The BJP had uniform civil code in its manifesto and it speaks volumes about its rancor for minorities," he said. He said the BJP has been desecrating the state flag time and again and recently it happened in Rajya Sabha. "The BJP is also opposing Article 370. Let people know that we can go to any extent to defend the special status of Jammu Kashmir," he said. Meanwhile Sharief-ud-Din Shariq said that India is a secular country and the citizens have religious freedom. "The decision of the Supreme Court , therefore, is totally unwarranted," he said.
