| As PDP reverberates with enthusiasm; NC, Congress still in state of shock | | | Shakeel A Khan
SRINAGAR, July 8: The leaders of the ruling alliance appear to have lost hope and enthusiasm in the coming assembly elections as both the parties, National Conference and Congress haven't been able to come out with the list of the candidates. As learnt from the reliable sources, Omar Abdullah is yet to decide whether to contest the assembly election from Sonwar or from Ganderbal because National Conference is going through the worst of the times in its history. Sources close to Dr. Farooq Abdullah divulge that NC patriarch is unsure whether to contest the elections or not because he hadn't imagined defeat in the recently held parliamentary elections at the hands of little known Tariq Karra. "There is no enthusiasm in the camps of the National Conference these days. Even the Abdullahs are still in a state of shock and are looking for safe heavens. Talking to Early Times, a source in NC said that the internal bickering in the party has weakened it and divisions within the party may come to fore once the party comes out with the list of the candidates for the upcoming assembly elections as it may hurt some prominent faces. Given the mood of the people in the recently held parliamentary elections, it is an uphill task for the National Conference to take everybody along given the fact that even the stalwarts of the party have faced the public wrath. On the other hand Pradesh Congress committee is too sailing in the same boat. It has paid the price for forging an alliance with the party which was on the hit list of the voters which the leaders of the party have admitted themselves. It supported the wrong policies, which were rejected by the people through the ballot. It was mistaken that by playing the secular card alone is going to see the party through the parliamentary elections. The condition of the party is so pathetic that its trump card, Ghulam Nabi Azad is struggling these days and isn't hopeful of returning to the power. As learnt from the sources, Azad is in a state of fix whether to continue as opposition leader in the parliament or try his luck as the Chief Minister of the state. "It may an easy job for the Pradesh Congress Committee to secure a respectable position as far as the coming assembly elections are concerned. It may even not be able to perform well in the Chenab Valley because people seem to fed up with the party," said Ghulam Qadir from Srinagar while talking to Early Times. |
