| Brewing resentment in BJP over revocation of suspension order of 6 MLAs | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 8: There is brewing resentment in State unit of BJP over revocation of suspension order of suspended MLA from Basohli, Jagdish Raj Sapolia with some Party leaders taking up the issue with Central high Command expressing their displeasure over the decision. According to sources some senior party leaders who expressed their reservation over the decision said that the Party had earned a bad name after the cross voting by seven of its elected MLAs in Legislative Council elections during 2011 by defying Party whip and voting in favour of NC candidate. Sources said that there is public resentment against these MLAs and people have openly demanded their suspension from the Party. They said the decision to revoke their suspension has created apprehensions among the minds of people and they are questioning the same. Sources said that soon after the revocation order was issued by the party president senior Party leader flashed letters to senior Partymen in Delhi and sought their intervention demanding revocation of the decision as such a step will tarnish the Party image which is committed to fight out corruption from public life. One of the senior State leaders have informed the Party High Command that after a great difficulty they managed to refurbish Party image and re-organise it and with the decision of revocation of suspension decision of six suspended MLAs it will be difficult for them to defend the same before public as opposition parties may encash the issue during coming Assembly poll. Sources said some of the party leaders had even demanded that the suspended MLAs be not considered for ticket in coming Assembly poll and the Party should nominate the new candidates in their place. These senior leaders have according to reports even named some of the candidates for these Assembly segments, sources said. Sources said that the party High Command has not shown any favour to them and it is yet undecided over the nomination of candidates for these six seats. The senior Party leadership in New Delhi is of the opinion that denial of ticket to the sitting MLAs who have been charged of cross voting can also create problem for the Party as this way they will indulge in anti party activities and help the opposition candidates by dividing the BJP vote. Sources added. Sources said keeping this thing in mind the High Command has asked the State leaders not to come with statements on this issue publicly as this will be against the Party interests. The High Command has decided that while granting mandate to any candidate the winability will be the main consideration. It may be recalled that party had earlier revoked the suspension order of five MLAs in early January this year while no decision was taken on the fate of BJP legislative Party leader Prof Chaman Lal Gupta who was terminated from the Party for his anti party activities and Jagdish Raj Sapolia who was considered a close aide of Prof Gupta. |
