Asks people to regularize their power connections

JAMMU, July 8 : The Minister for Housing, Horticulture, Culture, Youth Services and Sports Raman Bhalla today said that Government has approved a plan involving Rs. 700 crore under Restructured-Accelerated Power Development and Reforms Program (R-APDRP) to improve power supply scenario including the restoration of damaged power structures within the jurisdiction of Jammu Municipal limits of Jammu.Interacting with people of Nai Basti and Rampura after launching various developments here today, the Minister said that Power Development Department (PDD) has geared up its men and machinery to implement the plan. Earlier, the Minister launched various development works including upgradation of lanes, drains with grating facilities, construction of prayer shed at Peer Baba and laying of water supply pipes in drinking water deficit areas of the twin localities .Bhalla informed that Government has recently launched 2nd phase of Re-structured Accelerated Power Development Reforms Programme (R-APDRP) for Jammu division to tone up the power supply system in the Jammu city, Gandhi Nagar and eleven towns of Akhnoor, Bhaderwah, Doda, Jammu, Kathua, Kishtwar, Poonch, Rajouri, R. S. Pura, Samba and Udhampur to benefit 237002 consumers on account of power supply and distribution.
The Minister said that Government also recently launched a similar programme in Srinagar for Kashmir division to benefit 256679 consumers under the R-APDRP. He said that dozens of power projects in the various stages of execution will accrue benefits to the people in near future.
He said these will make the State self-reliant in power generation to meet its domestic, agricultural and industrial needs besides enabling it to sell the surplus energy and earn substantial revenue for meeting development requirements in all sectors.Bhalla said equitable and inclusive development of all the regions and sub-regions has been benchmark of the development policy of the Government and the holistic development across the State bears testimony to this determination of the Government.
Responding to the demand of locals, Bhalla asked the accompanying PDD functionaries to immediately replace the worn out wires and steel poles from Nai Basti and Ram Pura to avoid untoward incident .
He called upon the people to regularize their power connections for regular and un-interrupted power supply. He said government was committed to provide regular power supply in metered areas of the State. Bhalla directed to gear up the special squads for early restoration of damaged power structure in these areas, so that people do not face any inconvenience during the summer days.
