| NMA taking various steps to preserve ancient monuments in J&K | | | Early Times Report
jammu, July 17: The Union Govt has taken various steps for preservation of ancient monuments in J&K state and other parts of country. In this regard Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) is in constant touch with its unit heads in all the states of the Country and States Archaeology Department. According to sources among the various steps being taken by ASI in collaboration with Archaeological Depts. of the states is holding of seminars and workshops at different places. J&K which is world known for its ancient monuments dating back to Harappa, Kushan and Mohenjodaro period will also host such seminars in near future. In this regard a letter has been written by Member Secretary, National Monument Authority (NMA) of India to director State Archaeological M S Zahid in response to his recent letter stressing on dire need of holding such seminars in J&K for preservation of ancient and world famous monuments in J&K. The extracts of letter written by Pravin Srivastava, Member Secretary, NMA to MrZahid, director archive include the theme of the Seminar/Workshop broadly to be on preservation of ancient monuments and provisions of AMASRA Amendment Act in that context. The Seminar would serve to highlight the AMASRA Act 1958, the amendments that were made in 2010, the creation of NMA and its role and functions and the importance of ASI and State Archaeological Department in the overall task of preserving and maintaining ancient monuments and sites. Apart from the participants suggested, there would be participants from NMA, ASI, local NGOs or other agencies dealing heritage in the State. As far as the budget is concerned it is requested to send a detailed break-up of the total budget of 4.5 lakhs to enable them to process the matter further. |
