| 3 days on no action taken against erring SI | | Khaki's crackdown on SKIMS Registrar | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Aug 4: Three day after a senior medico working in Emergency Medicine department of Sher e Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) was thrashed by a Sub Inspector of Police at Noor Bagh in Srinagar, the authorities have failed to even registered an FIR against the erring cop. The doctors working at SKIMS have lodged strong protest against the authorities and have demanded that the cop should be suspended immediately and a formal FIR be registered against him. One Dr Riyaz Ahmad Dagga was roughed up and thrashed by the police officials lead by Sub Inspector Syed Junaid from Parimpora Police Station in Srinagar on Saturday when the doctor was heading towards SKIMS to attend his official duty. According to details available Dr Riyaz is working as Registrar in the Department of Emergency Medicine at SKIMS Srinagar and on Saturday at around 9am that he was on his way from his residence Qamarwari to SKIMS. When the doctor reached cement bridge Noor Bagh some cops told stopped him in view of the hartal call given by Hurriyat (G) . The doctor showed his identity card and pleaded before the cops that he works in department of emergency medicine at SKIMS and should be allowed to move ahead. During this discussion with the police officials and CRPF a Police Sub Inspector appeared on the scene and dragged the doctor out of his santro car and manhandled him. Later he was asked to leave the place and his car was seized. "I pleaded before the SI Syed Junaid that I am a doctor working at SKIMS and have to attend the emergency duty. The cop didn't listen to me and started thrashing me with his baton and took the car keys and seized my vehicle & threatened me of dire consequences" said Dr Riyaz . The doctor couldn't attend the duty as he was kept waiting for hours together on the cement bridge Noor Bagh and it was only after senior cops intervened that his keys were returned back to him. "It is third day since this incident happened and till date no disciplinary action has been atken against the said Police Sub Inspector and it looks like that we live in a Gundaa Raaj, I appeal to the Chief Minister to intervene and ensure that the said cop is suspended and a formal FIR is registered against him" Dr Riyaz further added. |
