| Selective leakage of Azad's letter to Governor a serious concern! | | | Abodh Sharma Jammu, Aug 4: Though the concerns expressed recently by the former Union Minister and Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad over alarming increase in road mishaps and loss of life in them have been taken earnestly by all and sundry, the selective leakage of the contents of letter written to the Governor of the state has raised many a hackles. The letter was written by Azad on July 17 last seeking deputation of a team of experts to study the grey areas and advise the concerned authorities to address the grave issue of road fatalities in J&K. The Governor took up the issue raised by Azad with the Chief Minister, stressing upon the need to work urgently to devise an action plan for the purpose, but not before the contents of the letter written to the constitutional head of the state by the leader of the opposition in Rajya Sabha were selectively leaked. The incident has raised serious question mark on the accountability and propriety of the administrative staff of the Raj Bhawan as selective leakage of a correspondence to the highest office of the Governor is a serious breach of privilege and trust of the top office of the state. This however is not the first time that information has been selectively leaked from the Raj Bhawan. Earlier also, a senior Raj Bhawan official was accused of selectively leaking classified information to certain media houses of his liking. It is pertinent to mention here that at time when state is grappling with serious issues of militancy and internal security and also preparing for Assembly elections, Raj Bhawan needs to identify and plug the loop holes, lest sensitive information is oozed out compromising vital strategic issues. |
