| New academic session commences in SKUAST Jammu | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 4 : The academic session 2014-15 in She-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-Jammu) commenced on August 4, 2014 with students joining under-graduate and post-graduate programmes in agricultural sciences, veterinary sciences and biotechnology at SKUAST-Jammu. According to press release, the university campuses at Chatha and RS Pura wore a festive look as the students; especially freshers registered themselves for different courses. On August 5, the day will start with orientation programme to introduce students to the faculty and the ethos of the institution. Prof. P.K. Sharma, Vice Chancellor will also interact with the freshers on the last day of the orientation programme on August 7. While talking to the freshers of undergraduate programmes, they expressed their wonderment at the picturesque campuses of the university and the state of the art physical facilities available in the university. As reported last month, this year two foreign scholars have joined the university for perusing masters in agricultural economics and plant breeding & genetics. These students have been sponsored by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India. Besides, under NRI and the Indian Council of Agricultural (ICAR) quotas, many students from other states joined the university for under-graduate and post-graduate professional courses. The university authorities informed that the admission process for Ph.D. programmes in different disciplines shall start in November-December, 2014. The university offers Ph.D. in 23 disciplines. The University has also decided to introduce skill imparting certificate courses in beekeeping, mushroom cultivation and plant nurseries from this year. Under this "hands on training" will be imparted to youth for setting up their own agri-enterprises. |
