| On demanding petrol expenses for ambulance attendants manhandle MS | | | Early Times Report
RAJOURI, Aug 11: In a fit of anger, the family members of a cancer patient ransacked the office of Medical Superintendent (MS) at District Hospital, Rajouri after they were asked to foot the petrol bill of the ambulance which was engaged to shift the patient to his native village. Suffering from lever cancer, Shamsher Mirza was declared at terminal stage by the doctors at AIIMS, New Delhi and PGI Chandigarh, got admitted in the District Hospital on August 7.The family members of the patient alleged that when his condition got deteriorated in the morning they demanded ambulance and authorities asked to pay the bill for petrol which led to a scuffle.Medical Superintendent District Hospital, Dr Mehmood alleged that relatives of a cancer patient namely ransacked his office and organized physical assault on him while he was in his office this morning.He added that the patient was taken out of the hospital and after some time family members entered his chamber and started ransacking furniture, fax machine, photostat machine and also assaulted him physically. Only after the interference by the staff, the matter could be taken under control. Family members later claimed that some employees of the hospital demanded money to fill petrol in the ambulance that created delay in taking the patient to home. The infuriated family members misbehaved with the staff and turned down some chairs in the office of Medical superintendent, said a senior police officer who reached hospital and provided police vehicle to carry the patient.Dr Mehmood said that he has moved an application in the police station while SHO said that he has not received any such application and action will be taken if it was received. Meanwhile, hospital sources said that family members today morning requested Dr Mehmood to discharge the patient as his condition started deteriorating. Sources further said that the patient was admitted in the ICU by Dr Mehmood on humanitarian grounds as the former was his class fellow as well as co-villager. "Hospital authorities on humanitarian grounds provided ambulance, oxygen cylinder and also a pharmacist Mohd Azim of the same village so that he can take care of the patient on way," said Dr Mehmood.Later, Shamsher Mirza died in the evening at his residence at village Bhatian in Thanamandi tehsil. ASP Shiv Kumar and SHO Yash Pal Sharma said that had the hospital authorities not demanded money for petrol there would have not been any dispute between the family members and Medical Superintendent. |
