Srinagar, Aug 11: A day after National Conference leaders skipped the NC-Congress Coalition Coordination Committee meet to protest against the recent remarks of the JKPCC Chief Professor Saifuddin Soz that Congress suffered due to "misgovernance" of NC, Congress today said that matter has been taken up with the Congress party president Sonia Gandhi and she would decide whether the coalition with the National Conference would continue or not.
The JKPCC spokesperson, Ravinder Sharma while talking to Early Times said, "NC members deliberately skipped the scheduled meeting as they were not serious about the important issues pertaining to the state."
He said that the matter has been taken up with the Congress high command and the party President, Sonia Gandhi who would decide on whether Congress would continue to be the part of the coalition government or not.
The CCC meeting was scheduled to decide the body and fill important vacant posts in the Public Service Commissions and Human Rights Commission on Sunday, however, NC members skipped the meet 'as a mark of protest' against the JKPCC Chief Prof Saifudin Soz's latest remarks against the NC.
Following the yesterday's development Chief Minister Omar Abdullah who was supposed to chair a follow up meeting in the summer capital here today cancelled the meeting as stalemate continued.
When contacted the CAPD Minister, Chowdary Muhammad Ramzan who is also a member of the CCC said that members form the NC side were not called for the CCC's scheduled meet. "I am surprised that I have skipped the meet. I was not called and there was no information of this meeting," he said.
Sources said that Soz's utterances have created ripples in the National Conference camp and most NC leaders want party to say goodbye to Congress and go for early polls. "It is a known fact that during the past six years all the plum ministries were held by the Congress leaders and they were the equal partners. As the elections are coming closer they are trying to shift the entire blame on us. We cannot tolerate this," said a senior NC leader.
On being told about the Congress leaders having approached the party high command over NC senior leaders skipping the CCC meet and putting the ball in Sonia's court the leader said, "Let them do whatever they want. We are not afraid of them."
Credible sources in the Congress said that Prof Said Ud Din Soz has convened his feeling to the Congress high command and cautioned that further buckling before blackmail tactics of NC would be proved counter productive for the party in the forthcoming assembly polls. Soz has, reportedly, argued that Congress has badly lost Parliamentary elections due to failure of the NC leadership on fronts.
Sources further claim that Soz had called meeting of the Coordination Committee after discussing all aspects with the high command. It was decided that Soz would give an ultimatum to the NC leadership to fully implement 73rd amendment of the constitution in J&K. He was also asked to put pressure on the NC members to set a dead line to solve all issues pertaining to the refugees from Pakistan occupied Kashmir. But the NC leader had skipped the meeting so no issue was taken up.
It is being held that Congress leadership has realized that taking confrontation with NC especially on the issue of 73rd amendment would give whole political dividend to the party in the coming assembly elections. Party leadership is of the opinion withdrawing support of the government in support of Panchayat members would help the party to make rural areas.
