| Globally acknowledged 'Basmati Rice' crop damaged in R S Pura | | | Early Times Report
R S Pura, Sept 8 : Farmers of border belt of Ranbirt Singh Pura while expressing concerns over the recent harsh weather conditions today said that the flood like situations in state particularly in Jammu have damaged the world famous Rice crop popularl;y called as 'Basmati' Lambasting the authorities, the farming community in R S Pura alleged, "No person form authorities of Revenue Deptt till date have visited to them to assess the damages caused due to heavy rains and flash flood which damaged their crops. They demanded the govt should take steps to assess the damage of crops in the area without any delay so that necessary compensation is provided to the affected farmers in R S Pura sector. Tehsildar R S Pura Manoj Kumar when contacted briefly told that we are preparing lists of the losses causes due to heavy rains and landslides in R S Pura so that coiompensation shall be paid to victims. " Till date the information available reveals that 2368 houses have been damaged while 807 hutments and 22 cattle got perished in the past days while a survey of crops damaged is on and will be submitted to higher authorities soon. Meantime Kissan leader Ch Mohan Singh during his visit to border villages Khatmarian, R S Pura told the media persons that the farmers residing in border area are fed up with the state government because the govt is not taking steps for the welfare of farming community. He said last week CM of J&K omar Abdullah visited the border villages affected by unprovoked Pak firing and had assured them for providing basic amenities but till date not a single promise has been fulfilled including his assurance of distributing providing free ration for 3 months to the affected families. |
