Flood situation under sustained monitoring

NEW DELHI, Sept 8: The National Crisis Management Committee (NCMC) chaired by the Cabinet Secretary Ajit Seth continued its review of the situation in J&K arising on account of floods. The Committee was informed that nearly 20,000 persons have been rescued from various places by the Army and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).
Nine fixed wing aeroplanes consisting IL-76, AN-32, C-130 and 29 helicopters have been pressed into service. In addition, 14 fixed wing aircrafts have been kept standby for carrying material required for J&K relief and recovery process. By Sunday, 15 teams of NDRF, 200 columns of Army have been deployed in J&K. NDRF has got more than 244 boats which have been pressed into the services in the Valley. The requisite manpower, life jackets and life guards are available.
A team consisting of representatives from the Ministry of Power, Ministry of Communication & IT, Ministry of Home Affairs and Mother Dairy have reached Srinagar to take stock of the situation to enable the Govt of India to extend emergency support facility to the local administration. Packets of biscuits, ready to eat food and drinking water bottles and sachets have been rushed in last night with further supplies carried to the Valley for distribution today. Indian Railways is transporting rake load of bottled water and sachet water to Jammu today.
As an emergency coverage of the logistics, petroleum products, food stock and medicines will move from Leh to Srinagar. Similar quantities of food, petroleum products and medicines will also be moved from northern India via Manali - Rohtang Pass - Leh - Srinagar to replenish the stock.
