| Over two week on, connectivity of Udhampur-Ghordi- Ramnagar road snapped | | Flood aftermaths | | Bivek Mathur JAMMU, Sept 24: After a period of over 16 days of the devastating flash floods that hits several parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Udhampur district administration which is working at a snail pace is yet to restore road connectivity in several villages. The only road link between Udhampur district and Ghordi village has been badly damaged by the worst ever flash floods near Barmeen village with over two and half Kilometers stretch from Inspection hut Barmeen to Baisakhi Dabbad Barmeen totally caved-in owing to which the connectivity between the District Headquarter and the Ghordi-Chenani tehsil has been snapped. As per the local Sarpanch, no one from administration has visited the area as yet to assess the losses suffered by the people following the connectivity was lost. He said villagers are ready to provide alternative land to the district administration if it is difficult to reconstruct the road near the damaged portion that has caved-in due to the flash floods but the same was contradicted by the Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur, Yasha Mudgal. In a telephonic conversation with Early Times, Mudgal admitted the fact that till date the road connectivity between Barmeen and Ghordi is lost due to damage of over two and half kilometer stretch of the road but vehicles on trans-shift arrangement are plying on the road for the daily commuters. She further said that different teams led by revenue officials have toured/touring various villages en route Ghordi-Barmeen road to assess the losses suffered by the locals and relief material has been distributed among the flood victims. "A comprehensive package has been finalized for the repair of the damaged portion of the road from Baisakhi Dabbad to Inspection hut and funds have been released to the construction agency i.e. PWD. Repair work on the damaged portion will start soon", said Mudgal. |
