Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Sept 26: A Senior officer in the state Government had leaked information to one PDP and one NC MLA regarding the opening of kand -e-zaal (barrier) to divert the extra flood water of river Jhelum via flood channel to save Srinagar city from flood fury which prompted the two MLAs to prevent authorities from opening of gates.
According to sources the state Government at high level meeting had decided to open the kand-e -zaal to save the city from flood fury but the information was leaked by a senior officer who was present at the meeting to two MLAs who's constituencies could have born the brunt of opening of kand-e-zaal as entire water passes through these two constituencies including Chadoora and Budgam to save the capital city of Srinagar. But the public representatives of the two constituencies created hue and cry and guarded the bund of kand-e-zaal along river Jhelum to prevent the authorities from draining out flood water from the flood channel.
Sources said that the leakage of the message created an embarrassing situation for the Chief Minister. This also resulted in deluge of entire capital city of Srinagar in flood waters and loss of many precious lives and property worth hundred crores of rupees.
Sources said that Government is contemplating action against the officer and he might even be sacked. Sources said that some MLAs from Srinagar city who are also facing public wrath for failure of Government to take presumptive measures to minimize the damage in capital city have also appealed to the CM to take stern action against the officer and place him under suspension.
Sources said, however, CM will seek a detailed report regarding his performance from the concerned Government agencies before initiating any action against him.
