Sharma raises slogan of 'Jammu First' | Calls for unity among leaders to defeat 'sinister designs' of Kashmir-centric governments | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 1: Fed up with the anti-Jammu attitude of the Kashmiri leaders, Congress leaders have decided to expose their "misdeeds" and biases towards the region. A few days after Irrigation and PHE Minister Sham Lal Sharma tendered his resignation from the state cabinet and blamed the NC ministers for sabotaging his move to regularize the daily wagers, his elder brother and senior Congress leader Madan Lal Sharma came in support of his brother raising the slogan of "Jammu First." Taking a dig at the Valley based parties, Sharma said, "All the Valley based parties have only one agenda i.e. to appease separatists and follow the anti-national policies as it helps them to blackmail the Centre and "remain in power." Sharma said that Jammu region faced discrimination in the allotment of new administrative units and the regularization of the daily rated workers. "The injustice meted out with Jammu region in the allotment of administrative units is intolerable. Jammu based leaders need to realize that if they don't unite at this point of time people of Jammu would have to pay a heavy price for it," he added. "They (NC leaders) sabotaged Sham Lal's move to regularize the daily wagers as majority of them belonged to Jammu. History stands testimony to the fact that it's not for the first time that Kashmiri leaders have objected to a Jammu centric move they have been doing it for the past sixty years." Sharma, a two time Congress MP, asked the leaders from the Jammu region to give up their differences and strive collectively to defeat what he called "nefarious designs" of the Kashmiri leaders. "The need of the hour is to strive for a regional council for Jammu on the lines of Ladakh and Kargil regions," he added. Hinting at the possibility of him going to any extent if the Kashmir based leaders don't change their anti-Jammu attitude, he said, "For me it is Jammu first as I am the son of this soil. I can go to any extent to safeguard the sentiments and the aspirations of the Jammu people. We have to cut across the party lines to ensure that sinister designs of Kashmir centric governments in the state are defeated," he added. Sharma said that its "unfortunate" that there are only a few hundred employees from the Jammu region in the Civil Secretariat while there are more than six thousands employees from the Kashmir region in the Civil Secretariat, who dominate highest seat of power. He claimed that him and his brother (Sham Lal Sharma) have always led from the front to safeguard the rights of the Jammu people. "Kashmiri leaders irrespective of the parties they belong to have a soft corner for the Kashmir and in order to appease their people they don't mind trampling the rights of the people," he added. Pertinently, Madan Lal's brother, Sham Lal Sharma, in the recent past had said that J&K should have a Hindu Chief Minister. His assertion had unnerved the Congress leaders in Kashmir and they had distanced themselves from his comments. Madan Lal who was campaigning for his brother Sham Lal in the Akhnoor constituency said, "Development which Sham has carried out in Akhnoor is testimony to the fact that we don't believe in rhetoric. We believe in performing. Akhnoor today is one of the model constituencies in the state," he added. |
