Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 1: All is not well in the Congress because infighting in the party has taken ugly turn after Congress leadership has deliberately leaked names of some of the candidates.
No official announcement regarding names of candidates has been made by Congress high command but infighting has started in a big way in the party before announcement of the candidates.
Credible sources in the party said that Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad is not convinced with the way party leadership is distributing mandates to candidates on the basis of quota. Azad has reportedly registered his strong protest over ignoring deserving candidates in the name of quota.
Credible sources said that a group within the party has suggested tickets should be distributed on the basis of quota so party has proposed to give mandate of Pradesh Youth Congress president Choudhary Shahnawaz on Surankote seat by rejecting claim of Choudhary Mohammad Akram.
Sources said that on the direction of Congress leadership Akram, who is son of Choudhary Mohammad Aslam, had resigned from the Government because party leadership had promised to give him mandate.
It was all due to the quota system that Congress high command has suggested that Surankote seat should be given to Choudhary Shahnawaz. But state Congress leaders have opposed this quota because they argued that only Choudhary Akram is winnable candidate for Surankote seat would be proved disastrous for the party.
Credible sources in the Congress said that All India Congress Committee (AICC) vice president Rahul Gandhi is himself going through the profile of all the candidates whose names have been forwarded by the state leadership.
Credible sources said that Rahul Gandhi had raised objection over names of two former Ministers due to their age. These two former Ministers have crossed the age of 70 years so Rahul Gandhi has raised objection over giving them mandates, sources said.
