| Newly nominated JU-VC inaugurates 32nd Annual National Conference of ISMS | | |  Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 1: A three day Annul National Conference of Indian Society for Medical Statistics, titled "Recent Advances in Statistical Methods and their Application in Health Sciences". Organized by Department of Statistics, University of Jammu was inaugurated today.
Prof R D Sharma Vice Chancellor, Jammu University declared the conference opened by lighting traditional lamp in presence of Prof Subbakrishna, President "Indian Society for Medical Statistics", Prof J P Singh Joorel organizing chairman of the conference, Prof Rahul Gupta organizing secretary of the conference, Prof K R Sundram and Prof Anil Mathew general secretary of the society.
In his inaugural address Prof R D Sharma Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu stressed upon the importance of Statistical Methods and various Statistical softwares for effective analysis of data from all the fields especially in the field of medical Sciences.
He pointed out that the organizing such conferences is the need of the hours and keeping in view the importance of Statistics in almost every discipline, such conferences should involve the faculty and students of all the disciplines.
Prof Sharma further said that popularization and adaptation of modern statistical techniques is quite satisfactory at national level but effort should be made to popularize so that common masses may get benefit of these modern techniques.
Earlier Prof J P Singh Joorel, organizing chairman of the conference welcomed the dignitaries, Statisticians and participants of the event. Prof Subbakrishna, President "Indian Society for Medical Statistics congratulated and applauded the Department of Statistics University of Jammu for organizing the event He also deliberated upon the activities of ISMS and stressed on the need for organizing such events. Prof K R Sundram in his keynote address stressed in detail various aspects of a good quality research paper. Prof Anil Mathew general secretary of Indian Society for Medical Statistics announced the names of award winners of the year 2013 and awards were presented to the winners jointly by Prof R D Sharma Vice Chancellor, Jammu University and Prof Subbakrishna.
High academic excellence award was given jointly to Prof R.K.Soni and Prof Ganguly, Award for applications of Statistics in epidemiology was awarded to Prof R P Srinivasan while Prof R.N.Srivastava award was given to Dr Brijesh Sathian Award for organizing chairman was given to Prof J.P.Singh Joorel
Prof Rahul Gupta, Head of Department of Statistics and organizing secretary of the conference presented formal vote of thanks. |
