Cab operators go on flash strike, protest against police | | | M S Nazki Early Times Report
MENDHAR, Nov 1: Dozens of cab operators went on flash strike here today after police forcibly took out stereos from their vehicles and damaged them. It so happened that cops led by DSP Surinder Choudhary and Mendhar police station SHO Sadaqat Malik intercepted six Tata Sumo cabs and forcibly took out their stereos. While the cab operators asked the cops to return them the stereos, they threw them on the road and damaged them. This sparked off strong resentment among the cab operators who then went on flash strike, holding anti-police demonstration from4 pm to 5 pm. Mendhar naib-sarpanch Mohammad Aslam Khan said it was wrong on the part of police to damage stereos without serving any notice on the cab operators. "The cops should have first served notices on the cab operators before taking such a step," he felt. The DSP and the SHO, who had left the spot following protest against them, later returned and spoke to the angry cab operators. On their insurance that they would be compensated, the cab operators dispersed peacefully. The naib-sarpanch said there would be a meeting with police tomorrow at 10 am. "If police refuse to pay compensation for the damaged stereos, we will go off the roads from Monday onwards," he asserted. |
