Jammu, Jan 13: To make feel them homely atmosphere on the festive occasion, HelpAge India today celebrated Lohri with the elder jail inmates at Amphala District Jail in Jammu. HelpAge India, a renowned organization working for the welfare of elders throughout the world for the first time celebrated Lohri festival with 48 jail inmates, who are elders. Students from various schools performed cultural programme inside jail premises and also interacted with the elder jail inmates. Meanwhile, jail inmates also shared their views with the school students and started missing their families and children. Superintendent, District Jail, Amphalla, Harish Kotwal appreciated the initiative taken by the HelpAge India for celebrating Lohri with these elder jail inmates, who are alone without their families. He also introduced school students and HelpAge India team to the jail inmates and said that this is a positive step and such programme, especially on the festive occasion should continue to be held in jails. Senior Manager, HelpAge India, Jammu, Sunita Santoshi also spoke on the occasion and thanked to the jail authorities to give them a chance for interacting and spending some moments with these elders who are alone from inside too.
