PDP rejects Omar's unconditional support offer | Governor rule better than having NC back in power: Akther | | Fazal Khan Early Times Report
Srinagar, Jan 13: Soon after National Conference working President Omar Abdullah wrote a letter to Governor N N Vohra offering unconditional support to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which emerged as a single largest party in the recent polls by bagging 28 seats, PDP spurned NC's offer terming Omar's move as "pressure tactics," and described NC as power hungry party. The PDP chief spokesman Naeem Akther while talking to Early Times said, "NC is power hungry party. People have voted for a change and against NC. Governor's rule is better than PDP entering into an alliance with National Conference." Akther said that PDP could have considered the option had NC succeeded in any of its endeavors during the past six years. "The Omar Abdullah regime was the worst in the past sixty years in the history of Jammu and Kashmir and people are celebrating that Omar is out of power," he added. "It is astounding that the party which has been rejected by the people is eager to be a part of the government. The present actions of Omar Abdullah are nothing but the pressure tactics to compel PDP to take a wrong step. We will take the right decision at the right time." The PDP spokesman claimed that the informal talks with BJP-on government formation are on and doors for the talks with Congress are also open. Another PDP leader while talking to Early Times said that none of the PDP leaders are interested in entering into an alliance with National Conference as most of them believe that it would tantamount to betrayal with the verdict of people. "We don't mind sitting in opposition or having a Governor's rule in place. Going with NC will prove suicidal for the PDP and Omar wants us to fall in his trap. He (Omar) believes he is the only smart politician and others are fools," he said. "We know what is right and what is wrong. Our party is not power hungry. If we are unable to strike a deal with BJP we have kept doors open for the Congress. We won't take any hasty decision." The PDP leader claimed that "Omar would have struck a deal with BJP and was ready to become a union minister but he faced stiff opposition within his party. For being in the business he had even agreed to have a chief minister from BJP for six years but his men forced him to change his decision," he added. The PDP insiders said that soon after news about Omar writing a letter to Governor broke out, the PDP leaders discussed the issue threadbare and unanimously decided not to accept NC's offer. "See the politics NC is playing they wrote a letter to Governor not to the PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. Had they been really sincere they would have approached the PDP leadership rather than going to Governor. Omar is playing politics as he and his party men believe that new government would expose their misdeeds and scandals," said another PDP leader. |
