| BSP comes out openly in support of dividing Jammu and Kashmir on geographical lines | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 13: Lambasting Kashmir centric parties for opposing citizenship rights to West Pakistani refugees, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) today came out openly in support of the demand of the trifurcation of the state of Jammu and Kashmir to solve all problems.
This support is a big boost for those who have propagating trifurcation as the BSP is the first national level which has come out openly in favour of dividing Jammu and Kashmir on geographical lines.
Some smaller regional political and social groups have been demanding trifurcation while as Panthers Party has been propagating that re-organisation of the state is the only solution to all problems of Jammu and Kashmir.
"We are demanding trifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir on geographical lines because aspirations of the people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh are entirely different", argued Tulsi Dass Langeh, state president of BSP. "Majority of the people of Jammu region demand strengthening of relations with Indian Union by abrogating special status being given to the State while as some sections in Valley demand more autonomy", Langeh said, adding "residents of Ladakh are unanimous on the demand of Union Territory (UT) status".
He said that Kashmir centric parties were opposing citizenship rights to West Pakistani refugees so it would be not possible to solve this human problem as long as there is domination of Kashmir in state politics.
"In our opinion Jammu and Kashmir regions should be given status of separate states respectively while as mountainous region of Ladakh be given UT status to address aspirations of all regions of the State", he said added that discrimination with Jammu can be removed only by granting statehood to this region. To substantiate his argument, Langeh gave examples of formation of smaller states in other parts of the country.
BSP's decision to support trifurcation demand attached importance because party has taken this decision to strengthen its position in Jammu region.
Interestingly BJP, claiming to be guardian of the interests of the people of Jammu region, has been hesitating to come out openly in support of the demand of the trifurcation. Instead of coming out openly in support of the demand of statehood for Jammu region, BJP has been demanding regional council to solve the problem of discrimination.
Smaller groups like Jammu State Morcha, Jammu Statehood Front and Duggar Manch are open supporters of the demand of the trifurcation of the state. |
