KVK continues five day Training Programme on Organic Farming

Reasi, Feb 13: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) has continued five days long farmers training programmes on organic crops production for rural development at Organic Training Centre, Talwara in Reasi district of J&K. KVK, Reasi is conducting the 2nd five days programme on the organic farming for a batch of 30 farmers.
The programme has been organised under the guidance of Vice Chancellor (VC), Dr. P K Sharma & Associate Director Extension (ADE) & Incharge KVKs of SKUAST-J, Dr. R K Arora. The Organic Training Centre, Talwara has been established by SKUAST-J and is sponsored by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi under Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhaya Unnat Krishi Shiksha Yojana to promote organic farming in the region. Scientist & Head of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi, Dr. Banarsi Lal explained scientific organic crops production. He said that chemical farming has enhanced the crops yields but it has deteriorated soil and human health.
The scientist stressed on commercial organic farming by which the farmers can generate extra income and employment and also they can produce the safe food. He said that organic farming is need of the hour as chemical farming causes various kinds of ailments. He narrated the recycling process of the resources available in fields.
The scientist highlighted the importance of organic farming and said that the farmers should make their proper marketing linkages so that they can increase their income by properly marketing their farm produce.
He demonstrated the preparation of low cost organic inputs such as Panchgavaya, Jeevamrit, Beejamrit, Fermented Butter Milk, Neem products, vermicompost etc. for organic farming. He demonstrated the techniques for organic farming and encouraged the farmers' for commercial organic farming. Dr.Suja Nabi Qureshi, scientist explained the use of organic inputs for the treatment of various diseases and insect-pests in the organic crops.
