Early Times Report

JAMMU, Feb 13: The new Inspector General of Police Kashmir range S P Pani is set to go for a major reshuffle of the belt force in the valley.
Sources said the IGP Kashmir has told the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti that he would need his "own team" to tackle the Kashmir situation and that he would need to change some of the officials at key positions in the department.
Sources said while officers of the rank Senior Superintendent of Police and Superintendent of Police would be reshuffled in consultation with the Chief Minister who is also the Home Minister, the Director General of Police SP Vaid would decide upon the transfers of the Deputy Superintendent of Police in consultation with the IGP Kashmir.
"SHOs of various police stations will however be transferred by the IGP himself in consultation with his own core team," the sources said. "At least three SSPs will be transferred in the coming days," the sources said.
Sources said the government has inputs that the militants were desperate to make their presence felt in some areas and thus the IGP Kashmir wants the officials "well versed" with counter insurgency to be posted at such positions.
Sources said apart from revamp in South Kashmir, which is seen as hotbed of militancy, reshuffle would see most of the SHOs posted in Central Kashmir particularly Srinagar getting transferred.
Pani, who had been at the forefront of anti-militancy operations in Kashmir, replaced ADGP Munir Khan as IGP Kashmir on Monday, following transfers as decided by the State Cabinet chaired by Mehbooba Mufti.
Sources said Pani is in constant touch with the Chief Minister and his apprising her about the developments. Sources said the government has intelligence inputs that more Fidayeen attacks were apprehended in the summer capital in the coming days. "Security is on high alert," said an insider.
