Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 13: Owing to unavailability of funds for establishing Skill Lab in Government Medical College Jammu as well Jammu and Kashmir Medical Supplies Corporation Limited failed to provide mannequins and other machineries to the completed lab at AMT School, the both 'Skill Labs' yet to be made functional, resulting the medical staff being failed to boost capabilities of health professionals.
It is important to mention that the Union Government had started a project to establish 'Skill Labs' in the hospitals as well as nursing schools for enhancing the capabilities of health professionals working in various hospitals across the country.
Sources told Early Times that two Skill Labs had been sanctioned by the Government of India. One for nursing training, which has been setup nearby Ancillary Medical Training (AMT) School and all funds have been released through NHM and other one's for Medical Graduate, Post Graduate, Paramedical, Interns and House Officer which location has been identified over the administrative block (GMC's Principal chamber) but due to separate issues, both labs yet to made functional.
"The Construction work of AMT School's Skill Labs, has been completed for last more than four months and the lab has been waiting for mannequins, machineries and others for last one year. In this regards, demands of machineries and others have been forwarded to the JKMSCL to provide the same but due to known reasons, the Corporation has failed to provide the required equipments so far," sources added.
As well as GMC's Skill Lab concern, a MoU was signed between State Government and Government of India, following an inspection team was also completed their visit in the GMC Jammu. The location of establishing pre fabricate structure has been identified over the Principal Chamber for the Skill Lab. Later, there had a query regarding the safety of the building which was also submitted safety certificate to the Government of India.
"But, funds have not been released by the GOI so far due to which the proposed lab is hanging in balance for last some months. Owing to which the claims of GOI for boosting capabilities of health professionals are fallen flat," sources said.
Principal of AMT School Rajani Devi said the construction and other work of the Skill Lab have been completed. "Now, we are waiting for mannequins and others for last one year since demands were put forwarded to them and reminders are being sent to them timely," she claimed.
