Maha Shivratri celebrated with religious fervour across J&K

JAMMU, Feb13 : Like other parts of the country, Maha Shivratri was celebrated across Jammu and Kashmir with religious fervour and enthusiasm.
The auspicious occasion, which is celebrated to mark mythological marriage of Lord Shiva with Goddess Parvati, witnessed prayers in temples with devotees offering water on Shivlingam, taking out religious processions and organizing of Langars etc.
Since the wee hours today, there was heavy rush of devotees in all the prominent Shiv temples.
People from different age groups, including children, young and elders, thronged the Shiv temples for paying obeisance and offering water mixed with milk on the holy Shivlingam. The devotees especially offered Bael and Bael Patri (Golden Apple and its leaves) to Lord Shiva while chanting 'Om Namah Shivaya'. All the Shiv temples were well decorated for the occasion. Several devotees also observed fast.
In Jammu, huge rush was witnessed at Ranbireshwar Temple, Peer Kho near Tawi and Aap Shambhu at Roop Nagar, which were specially decorated for the occasion. Through out the day, devotees kept visiting these temples to seek divine blessings of Lord Shiva.
The devotees were seen waiting in queues for their turn to reach near the Shivlingam for paying obeisance and offering water with flowers.
To facilitate the devotees, the administration had also made elaborate arrangements besides ensuring adequate security around the temples to ensure peaceful conduct of religious celebration. Individuals and organizations had organized Bhandaras near the temples where people were served sweets and light refreshment. Shree Lakshmi Narayan Mandir Samaj Sevak and People Welfare Samiti Gandhi Nagar organized a day-long Langar on the occasion.
In MENDHAR Maha Shivaratri was celebrated with great fervour and gaiety in sub Divsion Mendhar of Poonch district. People observed a fast to pay obeisance to Lord Shiva.
The main function was held at Shiv Mandir Ari temple, 3 km from mendhar A grand mela is organised here every year on the occasion of Maha Shivratri SDM Mendhar Rahual yadav. and police officers paid obeisance to Lord Shiva.
There was great enthusiasm among devotees, especially women, on the occasion. People offered bel patra, holy water, milk, ghee, sandalwood paste, flowers, honey, saffron and dhatura to Shivalingas to offer their prayers.
The festival of divine incarnation of Supreme God Father Shiva with great devotion, zeal and enthusiasm celebrated by Brahmakumaris Ashram Shastri Nagar, Jammu amongst large gathering. Large no. of Gas Balloons with Shiv Message release in the sky on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion Brahma Kumaris Bk Nirmal Behan said With One God Shiva in their minds, countless people keep worshiping him with deepest feeling of love, devotion and respect longing for one moment of his darshan or divine vision. God Shiva is everything to them.
Shivratri Celebrated with religious fervor in samba District here today.
According to the report, today early in the morning the devotes from samba and adjoin areas throng in temples including Aap Shamboo temple, Maheshwar, Shiv Sameshwar Temple main bazar samba with a religious prompting devotees perform their Pooja and offering holly water, flowers, Bel Patri, milk and other things which are dear to Mahadev.
An Ancient temple Maheshwar a huge rush of devotees was witnessed from early in the morning. The temple was highly decorated and special prayers were held on the occasion. The devotees performed Pooja of Lord by offering.
"BD Upadhya" Mahant Maheshwar temple samba said that those people who hold shivratri an atmosphere of happiness and peace prevails in his family.
