Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 21: The ruling PDP has crossed the line. The spokesperson of the J&K Government and a senior minister Naeem Akhtar has warned the Narendra Modi Government that its policy of no-dialogue with Pakistan on J&K was fraught with dangerous consequences and that if New Delhi wanted to avoid China's major intervention in the state, it had to talk to Pakistan. Clearly, he interfered in the country's foreign affairs, which is not acceptable. Also not acceptable was his virtual suggestion that J&K was a disputed territory and Pakistan and China are also stakeholders in the state.
Akhtar, in an interview to a national daily on Monday said that Beijing had adopted the Pakistan-based terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad, which was responsible for various terror attacks in J&K and other parts of the country.
It was clear from what Akhtar said that it was his desperate attempt to placate Pakistan and separatist outfits in Kashmir like Hurriyat Conference and restore the ground the PDP has lost in Kashmir over the years, particularly after March 2015, when the PDP and the BJP formed coalition government in the state ignoring the nature of the mandate in Jammu province and Kashmir Valley. Undoubtedly, he made this highly uncalled for statement to put pressure on the Narendra Modi Government so that dialogue process between New Delhi and Islamabad was started and Hurriyat leadership kept on the right side of the PDP.
What was surprising was the stony silence of the BJP over what Akhtar said. No central BJP leader slammed him and not one BJP leader from J&K contested him. By maintaining a stony silence, the BJP has further exhibited its ambivalence and this doesn't augur well for the nation and the BJP itself. Being a national party, the BJP must speak. Not only this, the Indian Foreign Office should also make the position of India clear as far as what Akhtar has said about J&K, Pakistan and China. It must remember that Akhtar is an official spokesperson of a government of which the BJP is a part. It can't allow the PDP to unsettle the settled things.
