2/23/2018 10:53:21 PM
Early Times Report

Rajouri, Feb 23: State government's decision to appoint Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) at Kotranka in Darhal Assembly Constituency in Rajouri district has created pandemonium in the district.
For the last eight days people of Nowshera sub division are on indefinite strike demanding district status for their area with district HQs at Nowshera.
They have started indefinite strike under the banner of Business Association (Beopar Mandal) headed by Subhash Kapoor and all the shops in Nowshera town including schools, banks were closed.
Meanwhile for the last two days people of Sunderbani have also started agitation demanding district status either at Sunderbani or at Siot (which is centre place for Kalakot, Nowshera and Sunderbani sub divisions.
On the other hand people of Kalakot tehsil, under the banner of Beopar Mandal have informed tehsildar that on February 24 & 25 they will observe complete shutdown (bandh) to express their resentment for bringing Kalakot area under the jurisdiction of ADC, Kotranka.
The indefinite strike by the people of Nowshera besides organisations from every field have been supported by Bar Association, transport association and college student's union. Even the protesters have stopped functioning in the offices of SDM and Tehsildar.
"We are on peaceful protest for the last many days and our demand of district status is long pending. Any attempt by the state government to divide the people by adopting wait and watch tactics may lead to violence and for that state government would be responsible," said Subhash Kapoor.
People at Sunderbani have started their protest demonstration and bandh on Wednesday demanding district status at Sunderbani.
"If the government can appoint ADC at Kotranka , which is just 30 kilometres from Rajouri district HQs , then why not at Sunderbani which is about 72 kilometres from Rajouri town" said Ashwani Kumar, president Sanatan Dharam Sabha. He added the people of Sunderbani may support the decision of the government for district HQs at Siot which will benefit the people of Nowshera, Sunderbani and Kalakot equally.
