Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 23: The officials of Public Health Engineering (PHE) especially the Drawing and Disbursing Officers (DDOs) seem least bothered to auction condemned vehicles, which are dumped at respective circles in Jammu division. As many as 50 load carriers truck, Water tanker and Inspection vehicles including ambassador cars, Gypsy are gathering dust since a long time. Sources informed Early Times that a well planned nexus between PHE and Private players continues unabated. As soona s the High Court ordered that 25 year old vehicles should be canbanned, the PHER officials dumped all the old vehicles. "However,. No new vehicles were purchased. Instead they are hiring private vehicles to make some quick bucks," sources said.
They further said that nearby 50 condemned vehicles including Trucks, Tankers, Inspection vehicles (Ambassador cars, Gypsy) of department's different circle including Kathua, Samba, Reasi, Poonch, Kisthwar, Doda and City-I and City-II were lying defunct in various PHE divisions of Jammu region.
"Instead of their auction, and demands for new vehicles from the State Motor Garages Department, the officials (DD)s) of the department seem busy to hire the private vehicle from private players that too exorbitant rates", said an official wishing anonymity.
Nearly 11 Truck and five Water tankers and more than 10 ambassador cares and Gspsy were could be seen as lying dumped at PHE Circles Reasi, Udhampur, Samba, Kathua, City-I, City-II, Rajouri, Poonch since last 12 years and no ones in the department seems least bothered about it.
"Such type of practice depicts that the officials of concerned department left no stone unturned to privatize the department in coming days. If the department will go in hands of private players, hundreds of lower rang employees especially the drivers would be jobless", sources maintained.
