SRINAGAR, Feb 23: The All Jammu & Kashmir Patwar Association (AJKPA) today asked the state government to issue formal orders for fulfillment of their pending demands failing which the Patwaris would intensify their agitation.
Addressing a press conference here today, Nazir Ahmad Dar, Vice President (Kashmir) AJKPA said that the government has been adopting dilly dallying tactics with regard to the fulfillment of demands projected by Patwaris from time to time. He said despite putting in their best the Patwaris are not paid adequately by the government. "For years together the state government did not pay any attention to our demands. Following this the people at helm constituted a committee to look into our demands. The committee found our demands to be genuine and asked the government to fulfill the same at the earliest. Instead of implementing the recommendations the government virtually played a spoilsport through one of the departments," said Dar. The Vice President (Kashmir) of AJKPA said that the finance department rejected the recommendations of the committee and as such the Patwaris were left high and dry. He said that it is an irony that the Minister for Revenue failed to do his bit in this regard and as such failed to motivate his counterpart heading the finance department.
It would be in place to mention here that the Patwaris across the length and breadth of the state are on a four day token strike in support of their demands. The four day token strike began on February 21 and would culminate on February 24. The strike has affected the functioning of the department with people being the ultimate sufferers.
"We don't want people to suffer due to our strike and the harsh reality is that we have been forced to adopt the path of agitation. We are asking the government to fulfill our genuine demands and if they fail then we would intensify our agitation. The state government would be responsible for the consequences thereof," said Dar.
The Patwaris under the ambit of AJKPA carried out a protest in support of their demands. They raised slogans against the government and wanted early redressal of their grievances. The Patwaris are demanding enhancement of grade pay, conduct of departmental promotion committee, increasing the grade pay of graduate Patwaris, provision of rent for private Patwar Khanas, creation of Patwar and Girdawar circles, allotment of charge allowances for Patwaris and Girdawars and abolition of direct recruitment of Naib Tehsildars.
