KVK organises training programme on organic farming

Jammu, Mar 1: Five days long training programme is being organised by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi of (SKUAST-J) for 3rd batch of 30 farmers on organic farming here today at Organic Training Centre, Talwara in Reasi district of J&K.
The programme is being organised under the guidance of Vice Chancellor (VC), Dr. P K Sharma & Associate Director Extension (ADE) & Incharge KVKs of SKUAST-J, Dr.R K Arora.
The Organic Training Centre, Talwara has been established by SKUAST-J and is sponsored by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi under Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhaya Unnat Krishi Shiksha Yojana to promote organic farming in order to enhance income and employment of the farmers and also to produce the safe food.
Different technical sessions on organic farming are being organised for the farmers. Scientist & Head of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi, and Dr. Banarsi Lal inaugurated the programme with the warm welcome of the farmers.
In the inaugural session he briefed on the opportunities and prospects in organic farming. He said that modern crop farming has enhanced the crops production but it has deteriorated soil and human beings health. He added that organic farming is helpful to improve the overall condition of human beings, animals, soil and environment.
He narrated that organic farming helps to attain ecological balance through the design of farming systems, establishment of habitats and maintenance of genetic and agricultural diversity. He further added that organic farming builds relationships that ensure fairness with the common environment and life opportunities.
Dr. Sanjay Kaushal, scientist stated that organic farming is must for the well-being of current and future generations and the environment. He stressed on commercial organic farming by which the farmers can generate extra income and employment. He suggested the farmers to avoid the middlemen to sale their organic farm produce so that they can earn more money.
He stressed on livestock production for organic farming. He said that in organic farming there is not much need of the resources and farmers can recycle the resources available in his fields. He said that healthy soils can help to produce the healthy crops which are essential for a good health of the human beings.
