R.B. Suri3/1/2018 11:10:06 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 1: The administration of Government degree college Kathua has allegedly embezzled nearly Rs 3 lakhs, collected from students as charges for Identity cards as the session is on the verge of closure but no identity cards have been issued.
Sources informed Early Times that during admissions in three years degree course, Rs 100 were collected from each student. A total of nearly 3500 students are enrolled in various courses. As per an estimate a total of Rs. 3.5 lakhs was collected from students but no Identity cards have been issued by college administration, sources said, adding that the session is coming to an end and exams are scheduled to start shortly.
"The funds will be ultimately embezzled as in official records identity cards will be issued but on ground no card is issued" said a student.
Sources further informed that students have no identity cards so they are not getting books issued from the library for exams preparation.
"What shall we do with identity cards if same were issued even tomorrow? Identity cards must have been issued in the beginning; but no one is here to ask the college administration", students said, adding, how college administration will identify outsiders in the college without cards.
Students further said, "though traffic department has asked the bus operators to give concessions in fare but conductors also demand identity cards which we don't have, due to which many a times there is heated arguments with bus operators and sometimes we have to give full fare. It is a problem for students coming from various places but we are helpless".
Students appealed Education minister Altaf Bukhari to take action against irresponsible college administration.
