After IIM, IIT Jammu becomes silent victim of Govt apathy
Mere 8% funds utilised in 2 yrs from PM's package

Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 1: After IIM Jammu wherein the government has spent mere 3 percent of the total sanctioned amount in two years, another prestigious institute- IIM is proving as a cruel joke for the people of the Jammu region. This project too is becoming a silent victim of government's apathy.
The official documents in possession of the Early Times reveal that the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology- IIT approved for Jammu three years ago is mirroring the image of present regime's dilatory mode of functioning.
The documents reveal that mere 8.5 percent of funds have been utilised out of the total sanctioned amount has been utilised for the establishment of IIT in Jammu. The documents reveal that out of the whooping Rs 1000 crores sanctioned under Prime Minister's Economic Package for the IIT establishment in Jammu, mere 85 crores have so far been utilised on ground by the Jammu and Kashmir government. It puts the total percentage of the funds utilised as 8.5 percent.
The IIT Jammu came into existence in the year 2016 when a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Department of Higher Education, Government of Jammu & Kashmir and Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, was signed, setting the ball rolling to set up an IIT campus at village Jagti, Tehsil Nagrota at Jammu.
However, as two years have passed since the IIT Jammu was announced to be established, the government here seems to have been undermining the importance of establishing the institute in Jammu. "This looks beyond the reach of reason that so far more 8 percent of the funds have been utilised by the government. What could have been done on fast track has been left into the back burner that too without any care by the people at the helm. This is unacceptable and the government has to be made accountable to such a drastic delay done in establishment of such a vital institute in the state. Those who have been tasked the work cant shrug off their shoulders and remain tighlipped," said an official privy to the development.
It was informed further that the Government of India too has been much annoyed with the state regime over the way the important developmental projects are kept in limbo and no effort is taken for the timely completion of these projects by the state regime.
On October 14, 2016 a provision of Rs 1000 crore was kept for the IIT in Jammu region of the state in Prime Minister's Development Package (PMDP) worth Rs 80,000 crore, which was announced by Narendra Modi in November 2016 at Srinagar's rally. It was informed at that time that the funds would start flowing in initially for running the IIT from temporary campus, followed by construction of its own campus in Jammu.
Meanwhile, it remains to be seen whether the prestigious and much awaited institute in Jammu would find days light during the tenure of the present regime or whether it would be a symbol of government's failures of six year term.
