BANDIPORA, Mar 1: A militant of LeT outfit was killed today in an encounter in Hajin area of this north Kashmir district.
According to sources, a joint team of security forces including army and Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police cordoned off the Shakoor Din Mohalla locality of Hajin after specific inputs about the presence of militants.
Soon after the CASO, the hiding militants opened fire at the search party, triggering an encounter, sources told ET.
Sources said that, in the exchange of fire, a militant was killed in the operation while other militant managed to escape.
However a top police official said that, "A team of SFs including Jammu and Kashmir Police, 13 RR, and CRPF 45 cordoned at Shakoor Din Mohalla in Hajin Bandipora early this morning where the exchange of firing took place between security forces and the hiding militants."
"In the said encounter, a militant of LeT outfit was killed whose identity was not immediately ascertained. In the process arms and ammunition which included AK 47 rifles and other incriminating materials were recovered, the official told early times.
The police official added that, on the basis of the evidence collected so far in the instant case, it prima facie establishes that the dead militant belonged to outlawed outfit LeT and a Pakistani national. In this connection, a case has been registered and the investigation has been started under the relevant provision of the law by the concerned Police."
Meanwhile, DGP S P Vaid tweeted, "One militant of LET apparently killed in an encounter in Hajin, Bandipore today morning in a joint operation of J&K Police/Army/ CRPF."
Pertinently few days back a foreign militant was also killed in a brief exchange of fire in Hajin village. He was later buried in the local graveyard in Hajin.
While as on Feb 26, there were inputs about the presence of militants in Bun Mohalla of Hajin area, after which the whole area was cordoned off.
However the militants had managed to escape from the village, after which security forces had called of the cordon and search operations in Hajin area.
Reports said that mobile Internet services were snapped in the area to maintain law and order situations.
