Early Times Report

Rajouri, Mar 1: On the 15th day of indefinite strike by the residents of Nowshera sub division for district status with HQs at Nowshera town, hundreds of protesters including women offered court arrests in favour of their demand. People including women lead by Subhash Kapoor, president Beopar Mandal entered the police station at Nowshera raising slogans against the state government with 'Jail Bharo' motive in favour of their demand.
Meanwhile, local MLA and MLC have also joined the people while offering court arrests and assured the protesters their full support. "Since 1967 the people of Nowshera have been struggling for separate district when the district HQs were shifted to Rajouri despite the fact that Nowshera was declared district. Our two generations have spent their lives for this struggle and now the present generation has decided to achieve our goal and will fight till the government not declared Nowshera as district" said Subhash Kapoor. He added the matter was also raised before the Chief Minister recently during her 2-days visit to Rajouri and despite her assurance nothing has been done in this matter till today. On the other hand women lead by Santosh Kumari and others during their 'Jail Bharo' attempt alleged that in 2014 Kotranka (under Darhal constituency represented by Ch Zulfikar Ali , Minister) was declared tehsil HQ and last month coalition government has opened the office of Additional DC (ADC) while the people of Nowshera have been struggling for district status for the last more than 50 years. "Why the Ministers and MLS of BJP remained mute spectators when the coaolition government announced ADC post for Kotranka which is just 30 kilometres from Rajouri while Noushera is more than 50 kilometres from district HQs" said the women.
People of Nowshera today mourned the anti Nowshera policies of the government instead celebrating the Holi festival.
