Early Times Report

ANANTNAG, Mar 3: A group of villagers on Saturday held protests against Rural Development Department (RDD) in K-Kalan village of South Kashmir's Anantnag district. The villagers claimed to have caught employees of RDD of Block Dachnipora preparing a 'fake bill' for Eidgah developed and being maintained by local (Auqaf) committee. They held protests in the village and raised slogans against the department.
"Last year we raised funds and developed the Eidgah, but surprisingly we came to know that employees of Rural Development Department in connivance with a political activist have prepared a bill for the work which they actually never executed," villagers told media.
They claimed to have visited the office of RDD's block Dachnipora (Srigufwara) and spotted employees including Village Level worker while preparing a fake bill to withdraw money from the state exchequer.
"This time we have caught them and we leave no stone unturned to expose these people who waste and grab the taxpayers' money fraudulently," they said while requesting authorities to initiate enquiry and action against the erring officials. The villagers also displayed documents which establish the fact that Deputy Commissioner Anantnag has last year given administrative approval under constituency development scheme of MLA Bijbehara Abdul Rahman Veeri for executing the work and had released an amount of Rs 1.50 lac for development for Public Park at Village K-kalan.
Officials told Early Times that the local Eidgah was being referred as Public Park in the official communication as CDF guidelines bar a legislator from spending fund for works having religious nature.
The RDD officials at Block Dachnipora-Srigufwara- denied to have prepared any such bill, however Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, who was apprised about the issue has assured that he will look into the matter.
