Early Times Report
Srinagar, Mar 11: Following the complaint of alleged medical negligence in man's death, the state government's health department today sealed Endoscopy lab of Khyber hospital Srinagar.
Sources told Early Times that the action was taken by the Directorate of Health Services Kashmir after a complaint was lodged that a man admitted at Khyber Hospital Srinagar last month for 'Polypectomy' died allegedly because of medical negligence.
One of the officials of the DHSK told early Times that a team headed by CMO Srinagar today morning raided the hospital and sealed the Endoscopy lab. "We have received the complaint that a man died in the hospital due to medical negligence. Accordingly the team was constituted to look into the matter and to begin with the team of officers on Sunday sealed the endoscopy lab of the hospital," the official said.
Chief medical officer (CMO), Srinagar, Dr Talat when contacted confirmed that Lab of the hospital was sealed.
Kyber Hospital authorities though admitted that the lab was sealed by the health department in connection of a death case, refuted allegations of medical negligence. "It is totally wrong to say that there was any medical negligence in the procedure. We did his polypectomy successfully and subsequently discharged him from the hospital after keeping him under observation for full night," Administrator of the hospital averred.
He however further added that next day we received a phone call from Dr Showkat Zargar who told us that he found patient's pulse rate to be low so accordingly he may be admitted in the emergency ward. However when we received the patient, he was dead.
It is to mention here that the Family members had lodged a complaint with the Khanyar Police station for registration of FIR.
"After the death of my father, what shocked me more was that Khyber Hospital had changed the content and date of discharge documents. It is crystal clear that the death of patient was caused due to pure negligence of Dr Zargar and Khyber Hospital who discharged the patients when he was not stable." the complainant has said.
"Please take cognizance of the matter and register an FIR against Khyber Hospital and Dr Showkat Zargar who discharge the patient in a critical condition willfully and even after his readmission in the said hospital on the advice of concerned doctor " he requested police.
