Early Times Report
BUDGAM, Mar 11: Despite allocation of huge funds, Municipal Committee Chadoora of this central Kashmir district have either failed to utilize them in a proper way or that goes into the pockets of the department concerned.
According to sources that, the slogan of Swacha Baharat Abhiyaan (SBA) has remained on papers only in this town and it has sent a wrong signal among the general masses.
Tall promises of developmental were made by the concerned MLA during elections, but the situation in the town is worsening day by day as the said scheme has badly affected the general public at large, sources told early times.
Sources said that, in Chadoora block there is no proper street lights, as the Municipal Committee was supposed to install them, and if few are installed they are defunct and money spent on them has been wasted at all.
In this town, waste collection and disposal system is completely defunct whereas the town is also lacking of public lavatories, due to which the visitors and local business community and others were seen urinating against the walls of shopping complexes, government buildings and even they sit on roads, said sources.
If sources are to be believed they said that, SBA was aimed to ensure dignity of women by providing better toilet facilities, but unfortunately that is missing here, even the worse situations is that on daily basis the local shopkeepers and students from schools urinate in open, much to the embarrassment of passersby.
Javid Ahmad a local resident of Chadoora said that drainage system is defunct and there is no installation of community waste/dust bins in the area, adding there is no shortage of manpower, but nobody knows why they have become lethargic in their responsibilities.
The Government of India allocates huge sum of money to these Municipal Committees and Chadoora MC is also receiving its share, but one can understand that either the money is being mis-utilized, or it gets lapsed due to improper planning as no renovation work of any project was carried so for from the department concerned, said Ahmad.
A group of locals said that, "the job of the MC was to keep the municipal limits clean, but they mostly grab the salary and ignore their job and the higher authorities are watching all this as mere spectators for which they all will be held responsible and accountable before Almighty Allah.
Irony of the fact is that, the concerned MLA hardly bothers to take review of developmental works of his constituency, and with the result he has left the residents of Chadoora block to bear the sufferings and miseries from the departments concerned, said locals.
