Kathua Case: BJP prefers power over people
3/11/2018 11:23:37 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 11: Ministers of Bharatiya Janata Party failing to convince its coalition ally, Peoples Democratic Party, to handover the alleged rape and murder case of the Kathua girl to Central Bureau of Investigation has triggered widespread resentment.
A source told Early Times that BJP ground workers are of the opinion that part ministers "failed to take a firm stand" over the issue and surrendered before its coalition partner. "People who had thronged the polling booths in large numbers during 2014 assembly polls were hopeful that their vote for change would help them fight Kashmir centric politicians but they have been left disappointed," the source added.
He said that people of Rasana village are not against the probe but they are being harassed at one or other pretext. "Many people in Kathua believe that Crime Branch is conducting the probe in an arbitrary manner and is pushing the common people to the wall," the source added.
A politician said, "BJP leaders and ministers have failed to plead the cause of the people whom they represent. Meeting the Chief Minister and raising the issue with her was just a mere formality which the BJP leaders completed to hoodwink their voters and the people of Kathua."
He said, "BJP leaders did not put their foot down to push for their demand for the CBI probe into the case. They succumbed under pressure after the Education Minister Altaf Bukhari threatened that PDP would pull out from the alliance if BJP insists that the case be handed over to CBI."
An analyst said, "BJP ministers are so attached to power that they can't even think of giving it up. After Bukhari threatened that PDP will pull out from the alliance, BJP leaders softened their stand and once again toed the line of PDP."
He said, "BJP leaders acting as second fiddles has disappointed the people of Jammu and they are feeling betrayed and let down."
A source said that even the RSS and the BJP high command are unhappy over the lack of coordination within the BJP's state unit. "It's really surprising that BJP failed to convince the PDP to handover the case to CBI. They should have prevailed upon their coalition partner for the sake of people whom they represent," the source quoted one of the top RSS leaders as having said.
He said, "No one is defending the accused. Everyone wants that the accused should be punished. Locals have outright the probe conducted by the Crime Branch. The CBI probing the case would have restored their confidence."
