Early Times Report
Srinagar, Mar 11: Lack of coordination between Health department and Jammu and Kashmir Medical Supplies Corporation Limited is making patients suffer in the government run rural hospitals.
One of the employees of health department said that the hospitals and health care centres in rural areas of the state are facing shortage of drugs in the state.
The official said that J&K Medical Supplies Corporation has failed to procure drugs for several crores of Health Department Kashmir in the last few years. "We have paid them money in advance but still they fail to procure drugs," the official said.
The official said that there was always lack of coordination between JK Medical Supplies Corporation and Health Department and Government Medical Colleges.
The official said that Health Department has been sending them requisitions to the Corporation for the last several years but the required and few life saving drugs are not being provided.
The J&K Medical Supplies Corporation Limited - JKMSCL is a fully owned company of Government of J&K, established in 2013. Sources said it was incorporated under Companies Act, 1956 to streamline the procurement and supply of drugs, medicine, surgical and suture items to Government Health Institutions.
However, sources said there has been no difference on the ground. "Establishment of the Corporation did not make any change instead things seem to be going from bad to the worse," an official of GMC Srinagar said.
While an official of JKMSCL said they procures drugs through open tendering process from the original manufacturers or direct importers in bulk, stocks in drug ware houses in districts. "There gets delay sometimes. I think Health Department and GMC Srinagar and Jammu should also coordinate with us for timely procurement of drugs," he added.
He said the government had set-up the JKMSCL to ensure standard drug supply to the state-run hospitals and also maintain a transparency in the purchase of medical equipment. "A lot has to be done to ensure there well standard drugs are procured," he added.
To ensure single window system and complete transparency in procurement of quality medicines and diagnostic equipments for health institutions across J&K, Minister for Health and Medical Education, Bali Bhagat has directed all the Heads of Departments and Institutions, including Principals Government Medical Colleges, Dental Colleges, Directors Health Services to put in their consolidated and timely requirements to the Jammu and Kashmir Medical Supplies Corporation Ltd (JKMSCL) for arranging the same in a time bound manner.
