With Drabu's exit, lobbying begins within PDP for cabinet berth

Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, Mar 12: As Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has removed Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu from the council of ministers, lobbying has started within the ruling PDP leaders to be part of the government in Jammu and Kashmir.
Chief Minister Monday wrote a letter to Governor N N Vohra for removal of Drabu from the cabinet. She took the decision in the backdrop of Drabu's remarks at an event in New Delhi that, "Don't see J&K as a conflict state and a political issue, it is a society which has social issues right now. We are trying to find our own space and we are going through a process which many other countries are also going through."
Now a hectic lobbying has been started within the PDP to be part of the cabinet and some ministers want to get portfolio of the significant departments. "Some leaders want to get minister of state portfolio in the Mehbooba Mufti led government," a PDP leader said.
"A senior leader from north Kashmir is eyeing on Finance Minister's post," a source in the PDP said.
He said that Chief minister may allot Finance Ministry as additional charge to Altaf Bukhari, Naeem Akhtar or retain herself till the cabinet meeting is held. "Everything will be clear on March 20 when the cabinet meets. If Finance Ministry is giving someone from the cabinet then PDP may induct a new face into the cabinet. For that hectic lobbying has begun," he said.
He said that some of the ministers also want to get portfolio of significant departments. Two of the PDP ministers Basharat Bukhari and Imran Raza Ansari in February last year offered resignations. However, sources said that two resumed the office after they were assured of getting the portfolios of significant departments.
In the reshuffle, Bukhari was divested of the charge of Department of Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation and assigned charge of "insignificant" Horticulture department.
While, Ansari according to sources was not happy with his portfolio of Information Technology, Technical Education and Youth Services and Sports. Now sources said both the leaders have been mounting fresh pressure on the party leadership of getting significant departments.
The PDP leader said that both the ministers were assured of giving them charge of significant departments. "They were told then that there will be reshuffle after the Parliamentary by-polls of south Kashmir but that didn't happen," the PDP leader said.
Now both the leaders have been mounting fresh pressure on the party leadership.
Earlier, MLA Zadibal, and Imran Ansari's uncle, Abid Hussain Ansari, had accused Naeem Akhtar and Peerzada Mansoor for creating hurdles to Imran in getting significant department.
