| Kupwara bids farewell to martyrs, seeks end to hostilities | | |  Early Times Report
Kupwara, Mar 22: Hundreds of people participated in the two different funerals, one of an army jawan and the other of police cop of this frontier district, who were killed in an Encounter at Halmatpora area of Kupwara the previous day.
The body of Mohd Ashraf Rather, a jawan of JAKLI and a resident of Reshigund Kralpora area of Kupwara here reached Zangli helipad today and was taken to his native village. Hundreds of people had gathered at the village to participate in funeral procession of slain army man.
Mohd Ashraf is survived by his pregnant wife, father and his Three year old daughter. "He (Mohd Ashraf) was the sole bread earner for his family" said one of his relative, demanding an end to ongoing killings in Kashmir.
Brigadier of the army along with other army officers, in a cavalcade, brought Mohd Ashraf's body to his home in Reshigund village and later participated in wreath lying ceremony which was held with full military honours.
Similarly hundreds of people participated in last rites of SPO Muhammad Yousuf Bajaad of Kachama Harri area of Kupwara amid emotional scenes.
Mohd Yousuf is survived by two daughters, three sons and elderly mother. Hundreds of people had gathered at the village to participate in funeral procession of slain Policeman held at Kachama Harri Kupwara but unfortunately none of top police officials attended his funeral.
Member of Parliament Mir Fayaz visited the bereaved families and offered condolences.
Family members and villagers of the slain army and policemen demanded end to "bloodshed" and urged India and Pakistan to start talks on Kashmir for resolution of the issue. "We appeal to India and Pakistan to stop the hostility," they said. |
