50 yr old succumbs to splinter injuries

Rajouri, Apr 4: A fifty year old Rattan Singh s/o Santokh Singh resident of Nonial in Nowshera sub division died due to splinter injuries near Army firing range situated at Ghadi.
Army units deployed on the Line of control and for the protection and security of the Fence, conduct firing, grenade/ mortar shell throw and other action related practices at this firing range and the local people in order to collect brass, copper and other waste material after/ during the practice hide themselves in the vicinity of this firing range.
During practice period Rattan Singh was also present in the area and few splinters hit him while hiding in the bushes and he died on the spot. In the past also many such incidents have taken place and the Army through people's awareness camps and with the help of local administration has several times appealed to the people not to hide near the firing range during practice hours but the people never pay heed to such directions.
"Taking cognizance of the incident, police party was rushed to the spot and after medico legal formalities have taken the custody of the body and brought it Community Health Centre (CHC) at Nowshera for autopsy which will conduct on Thursday" said a senior doctor.
Pertinent to mention that people collect Brass, Copper and other such items after the practice was stopped to earn money by selling these items in the markets.
