Training programme on "Entrepreneurship Development in Organic Farming" organised

Reasi, Apr 4: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi of Sher-e- Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J) organised one-day in-service training programme on "Entrepreneurship Development in Organic Farming" at Sub- Divisional Agriculture Office(SDAO), Reasi under the able guidance of Associate Director Extension (ADE) of SKUAST-J Dr.R.K. Arora. The training programme was attended by more than 25 state departments Agricultural Extension Officers.
Dr. Banarsi Lal, Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi initiated the programme with a brief importance of organic farming. He gave a detailed view of organic farming. He narrated that with the indiscriminate use of agrochemicals our soil health has been deteriorated which ultimately causes the ill effects to the human beings. He elaborated that organic farming is a holistic production system which refers eco-friendly methods for crops cultivation and food processing. He further narrated that soil health management is must for the sustainable agriculture. He awared the officers that hilly areas have immense scope for organic farming and suggested that the farmers should produce the organic crops which will further help them to fetch more prices. He elaborated the principles of certification of organic farms and informed about the organic farm certifying agencies. He further added that our future generations will be healthy only when we will protect our soil and environment health through eco-friendly agricultural practices. He further added that farmers should use the organic manures/vermicompost in their soil to increase the fertility of soil in a sustainable way.
He stressed on the use of vermicompost in the crops which is rich in plant nutrients and suggested that it should be used to protect the soil health which further will help to produce the healthy crops. He narrated that farmers can also use vermicompost as an entrepreneurship and generate extra income. Dr. Banarsi further addedon scientific organic agricultural techniques to produce the maximum yield of the crops. Dr. Suja Nabi Qureshi elaborated on organic horticulture and said that by growing the organic fruits crops farmers can fetch more prices. He narrated the methodology for the organic horticulture and gave a detail view of propagation techniques in horticultural crops.
