Early Times Report

Reasi/Rajouri, Apr 6: An unfortunate episode of politics over dead came to the light on Friday after a vehicle turned turtle in Rajouri jurisdiction leaving four dead and 22 injured.
The accident occurred at Kanda near Shiv Khori, where a Matador-407 (No. JK02AC/8710) rolled down a 30 meter deep gorge after the driver failed to negotiate a sharp curve.
Three persons namely Gulab Singh, of Faizabad, UP, Deepak, of Ahmedabad, and Sheela Devi, of Ayodhya, UP, were killed on the spot while 22 others including some children were seriously injured.
After the incident, the locals informed the nearby Taryath police chowki. But the police officials present on the duty, instead of rushing to the spot, paid a visit only to see the accident site.
The locals said that after seeing the site, the police officials, instead of taking any prompt action, argued over the jurisdiction of the accident site.
Learning about the accident, Senior Superintendent of Police Reasi, Tahir Bhat, volunteered his men from all chowkis of Reasi jurisdiction for evacuation of the dead and injured.
"Leaving aside the jurisdiction controversy, I directed my men from police station Ransoo and police station Pouni to reach the spot and do the needful immediately," said Bhat.
SHO Ranso and SHO Pouni, Sanjeev Abrol reached the spot with their contingency plans and removed the to nearby Public Health Centre Taryath. Those who were grievously injured were evacuated to Government College Jammu for advanced treatment
It is in place to mention that despite the tragedy having struck in their district, the Rajouri police stood as mute spectators and argued over the jurisdiction, while the Reasi police under the leadership of SSP Reasi evacuated the injured.
"The sorry state of Rajouri police is thus not abhorring only but very unfortunate," said the locals. "The Trayatah police Chowki could not even arrange an ambulance for the accident which was very disgusting," they said.
