Locals lock School in Anantnag to protest over dearth of staff 4/10/2018 10:34:12 PM Saahil Suhail Early Times Report Anantnag, Apr 10: Residents of Khiram-Sangnard village in Bijbehara area of Anantnag district on Tuesday closed a state-run Primary school to protest dearth of staff. The students and parents assembled in the premises of Govt Primary School Khiram-Sangnard despite heavy rainfall and held protests against the officials of school education department. "We were forced to lock the school as education department officials were not listening to our grievances," said Nisar Ahmad Khasana, a local resident. He alleged that they were humiliated when they visited the office of Zonal Education Officer Srigufwara. "In ZEO office Srigufwara we were humiliated. They told us that no Gujjar has become a doctor or engineer and were thrown out from the office. They even told us to train children for animal breeding and stop demanding teachers for the school," they alleged. Locals said that for over 50 enrolled students' education department has deployed just a single teacher in the school. "Two Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReT) teachers have been shifted from here despite the fact that school needs at least four teachers," they added. They demanded a teacher hailing from the Gujjar Community be posted in the school so that the children enrolled in lower classes understand and start learning easily. According to rules, ReT teachers can't be transferred from their respective place of postings even if their services are regularized since their appointment is school specific. However in violation of norms, the Education Department has transferred many ReT teachers in different zones of Anantnag district from places of their actual postings. Zonal Education Officer Srigufwara, Sareer Ahmad Farooqi who termed the allegations leveled by the villagers 'baseless' however admitted few rooms of the school were padlocked by the villagers. He said that they have fulfilled all the demands of the villagers and have deputed two more teachers in the school including one hailing from the same community as demanded by the villagers.   Share This News with Your Friends on Social Network     Comment on this Story
