Early Times Report
Jammu, April 10: The BJP-PDP coalition government has refused to fix responsibility for the damage caused to world famous Basohli paintings of Dogra heritage. And on the other hand a superannuated official, during whose tenure moisture had hit the paintings, has been lobbying hard to get extension in the Archives department for two more years.
Sources informed Early Times that the official who had retired from government services few days back, has been running from pillar to post to get extension of two more years in the Archives department.
"In the proposed list of candidates eligible for the post of Director Archives, a senior official's name also figures. But a retired official has been trying his best to get extension of two years after his recent retirement from the services", sources said.
They further informed that this official had knocked the door of a politician from Jammu region, who after due negotiations has given full assurance to the superannuated official to be again posted in Archives department for two more years.
"A deal has been fixed with this politician from Jammu, who has put his weight behind the candidature of this retired official for the prestigious post of Director Archives", sources said.
They said though a higher official in Chief Secretary's office had also raised objection to the candidature of this official, due to backing of Jammu politician the file was forwarded for final approval.
Sources further divulged that the second in-service official in the list, had also worked in the department for few time and is also a Dogra of Jammu. But instead of pushing the government to give responsibility to the official, the politician of Jammu, whose party claimed to be champion of Jammu cause, has preferred a retired official, who is not from Jammu region.
"This retired official is also allegedly involved in recruitment scandal in the Archives department and had allegedly appointed some employees through backdoor. Moreover, under his nose, the antique Dogra heritage of Basohli paintings was struck by moisture. The cost of one panting was nearly Rs 5-6 crore, and nearly 500-600 paintings had damaged", sources said, adding that the official had not advocated for preservation of the heritage but was very much interested to come again in the department.
The state government has refused to order any probe into the damage caused to Basohli paintings and in this way, under a well planned conspiracy, the Dogra heritage is being eliminated from Jammu.
