KUPWARA, Apr 10: The state government and GOI have failed to bring the youth towards the sports and other cultural activities for which they are investing hefty sums.
Government is trying hard to divert the attention of youth towards sports and other co curricular activities, but practically they have failed to provide such kind of atmosphere to the sports lovers.
According to sources, almost seven years ago a chunk of land measuring of 107 kannals was acquired for a stadium at Gaalizoo Kupwara.
Due to the negligence and callous approach of the authorities, the area has been illegally grabbed by some land mafia hand in glove with the official of sport council and other concerned departments, sources alleged.
They said that the government has deliberately kept hundreds of kannals out of sight due to which it has no motorable road that could connect with this land that was purposely made for the stadium. Bashir Ahmad of Gaalizoo said that hundreds of kannals were acquired against meagre compensation and even then we the land owners offered this precious land but unfortunately nothing has been done with respect of fencings and other infrastructure.
Since 2009, there has been no construction of the stadium and maintenance of dressing rooms, toilets, drinking water facility, sanitation, he said.
However members of civil society Kupwara hope that local administration will wake up and take necessary steps for redressal of grievances.
