HT wire falls on fields, standing crop worth lakhs reduced to ashes

Vijaypur, Apr 27: Standing crop over hundreds of kanals of fields was destroyed in fire when live High Tension wire fell down at border area of Ramgarh in Tehsil Vijaypur of Samba district. The loss of destroyed crops has been assessed approximately at Rs 6 lakh.
The fields of wheat which turned into ashes belonged to nearly 23 farmers. The dejected farmers were preparing to harvest crops in coming few days but the incident which is being attributed to the negligence of the PDD has pulled them in gloom and despair.
The farmers alleged that live High Tension wire over their fields remained hanging at many places which often caught fire but authority concerned remained mute spectator. "The wheat crop was spread in approximately 150 kanals of land and which was in possession of around two dozen farmers. The incident happened on April 23, 2018 at villages Pardi, Shonni where nearly 93 kanals of standing crop belonging to 12 farmers, including Tara Chand 6 Kanals, Swarn Singh 10 Kanal, Satpaul 8 Kanal, Parit Lal 6 Kanal, Kartar Singh 6 Kanal, Girdari Lal 20 Kanal, Kartar Chand 6 Kanal, Tarlok Chand 16 Kanal, Tilak Raj 4 Kanal, Ram Lal 4 Kanal, Ashok Kumar 4 Kanal, Ishear Dass 2 Kanal, was reduced to ashes due to fire.
Similarly, at villages Kamor and Dug, Gokle Chak the crops of 12 farmers comprising 61 Kanals was ruined in fire due to falling of live HT wire. The affected farmers here included Yash Paul Singh 20 Kanal, Sansar Chand 10 Kanal, Subash Chand 4 Kanal, Mukhteyar Chand 4 Kanal, Rajesh Kumar 4 Kanal.
When contacted Deputy Commissioner Samba, Rajinder Singh Tara, said that administration has taken the cognizance of the matter and he has instructed all the concerned tehsildars to initiate the loss assessment process of the destroyed crops and accordingly the compensation will be given to the farmers. On being asked about the issue of handing live wire passing through the fields, DC Samba said that he would personally look into the matter by calling the meeting of senior PDD officials in this connection and the problems will be resolved at the earliest.
