GDC Kathua cancels annual day, sans notification
Session almost over, exams of 4th, 6th semester begin

Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 27: The administration of Government Degree College Kathua has cancelled the annual day-cum-prize distribution function without any official notification as the session is at the brink of closure and examination for 4th and 6th semester have already begun.
As per sources, the annual day-cum-prize distribution of the college was decided to be held on April 24, but it was not held on the same day. "Preparations for the function were almost complete. Various committees were also constituted by administration whereas students have been doing practice for various cultural and other programmes for the last over fifteen days", sources said.
Some students of sixth semester, pleading anonymity, said that their examination were scheduled to start but they had been busy in the preparations to make the annual day function a success and it was unofficially communicated to them that annual day-cum-prize distribution function would be held on April 24. But without any notice it was cancelled which was surprising.
"When we asked the faculty members about the reasons of cancellation, they asked us to enquire from Principal's office. When we visited the Principal's office, we didn't get any satisfactory reply", a student said, adding that even an official notification was not issued by administration.
"Our degree is going to complete and after examination, no one will visit the college to participate in the annual day function as we will not be even considered as students of the college as our identity cards are also submitted in the college", another student said, adding that none of student would come to take prize for her/his performance in various activities in the college. "The administration must give some official reasons for cancellation of the function but it is most unfortunate that they didn't give any such reason", another student said, adding that it was for the first time that annual day function of the college was not held for reasons best known to authorities concerned.
